Companies including BC Hydro, Enmax, SaskPower, Manitoba Hydro, Hydro One, Hydro Ottawa, and Hydro Quebec have exclusive offers, coupons, and other ways to save. Saving Money on Electricity and HydroLearn what your hydro company is offering to you for free, to save you money every month. Here are resources available in your province.

British Columbia (BC) – BC Hydro

BC Hydro allows you to sign into your account online and use electricity tracking tools. The tracking tools can help you identify what appliances and other electronics are sucking up the energy in your home, as well as opportunities to save big money. Try it out!

Alberta – Enmax

Enmax lists easy things you can do to help manage the amount of energy your home uses, therefore reducing your electricity bill. One suggestion includes plugging your electronics into a power bar and shutting the power bar off when you’re done. That way, you know your electronics are truly shut off, and not still eating up your dollars while plugged into the wall.

Saskatchewan – SaskPower

SaskPower has an online cost calculator to understand where you’re using the most power in your home. You can even learn the cost of running a specific appliance or electrical item too! It may make you think twice about how you use the appliances in your home.

Manitoba – Manitoba Hydro

Manitoba Hydro recognizes that 12% of your electricity bill can be from heating your water, so they will send you free kits that will help you save money. Kits contain low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators, water heater pipe wrap, Teflon tape, and a thermometer for your fridge and freezer. Seriously, the kits are free. Order one now!

Ontario – Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, Toronto Hydro, and Hydro Ottawa

Within Ontario, hydro companies like Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, Toronto Hydro, and Hydro Ottawa are offering coupons, clocks, apps, and free programmable thermostats to their customers. As frustrating as the costs of electricity can be, there’s always new ways to save money. Hydro One offers coupons to help you save instantly on energy-efficient products for your home, like LED and CFL light bulbs.  They also offer PowerSaverPlus, an online tool that provides detailed analysis of the electricity use in your home. The Ontario Energy Board has a Time-Of-Use rate chart that shows you when it’s less costly to use electricity. Toronto Hydro allows you to view your electricity usage from your mobile phone, and compare your hourly, daily, and monthly consumption to previous bills. You can even set up alerts to help manage your costs! Hydro Ottawa is offering free programmable thermostats and a free energy display to consumers who are willing to participate in their peaksaver PLUS program. Are you going to get one?

Electricity, Hydro and Household Bills RemindersQuebec – Hydro Quebec

Hydro Quebec dares you to compare your energy use to that of similar households and find out just how energy-efficient you are. They also provide you with an Electricity Cost Breakdown that shows just where your electricity is being used and how much it’s costing you.

New Brunswick – NB Power

NB Power dispels myths around energy consumption on their website. They also have energy tools to help you figure out if your home is energy efficient, which appliances use the most energy in your home, and how much you can save.

Prince Edward Island (PEI) – Maritime Electric

Maritime Electric shares Seasonal Tips on their website to help you save money year round. You know their advice is awesome if they suggest you fire up the BBQ on summer days instead of cooking indoors. Why generate more heat in your house and use up energy when you can be outside?

Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia Power

Nova Scotia Power has a handy Wattage Widget. By simply entering the wattage of the item you’re using, and the number of hours you use it for in a day, it will tell you the cost per day, month and year. Dare you to check how much money your number one used electronic is costing you.

Newfoundland and Labrador – Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro

Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro have joined forces to create an inclusive list of Savings Tips for your home that are no cost, low cost, and worth the investment.  Want a no-cost tip? Close the damper on your fireplace when it’s not in use. So many of us forget this.

Territories – Yukon Electrical and Northwest Territories Power Corporation

Power companies in the Territories like Yukon Electrical and the Northwest Territories Power Corporation have tons of ways you can save money on your expensive power bills. Sorry Nunavut, your electricity company doesn’t have any tips available just yet, but reading through the tips offered by other hydro companies will help you too! Yukon Electrical has written an extensive list of the hourly and monthly cost of items in your home. Did you know your clothes dryer costs $11.02 per month on average and your hair dryer costs about 25 cents each time you use it? Northwest Territories Power Corporation specifies ways you can save energy throughout the frigid months of winter, including ways to save with space heaters, vehicle block heaters, and drafts in your home.
